So far a dozen candidates have tossed their hat into the ring to become Virginia’s next governor. The 7 Republicans and 5 Democrats include former Governor Terry McAuliffe who’s received an endorsement from Governor Ralph Northam.
There are 8 Democrats running for lieutenant governor and 6 Republicans. The University of Virginia’s Larry Sabado says such a large number of candidates is unprecedented in modern times. The primary election is June 8.
