Smokers in Northumberland County will not be subjected to a 4-cents-per-pack tax after the Board of Supervisors decided not to move ahead with its implementation. According to the Rappahannock Record the board did leave the door open to joining the Northern Neck Region Cigarette Tax Board whether or not a tax is implemented. Lancaster County lawmakers decided to go ahead with a cigarette tax for areas where a local tax isn’t being collected.
