Starting this Friday you will need to dial 10-digits to make all phone calls – even local ones. That’s because last year the government designated the numbers 9-8-8 to become a national mental health crisis and suicide prevention number. Since 9-8-8 was a prefix for local numbers across the country the 10-digit dialing requirement was implemented. There is a grace period where 7-digit-dialed calls will go through but officials want to get people accustomed to the new standard.
