COVID-19 P.1 Variant Confirmed In Virginia

The Virginia Department of Health announced that the first 2 cases of P.1 coronavirus variant have been identified in Virginia residents. The P.1 variant was first identified in travelers from Brazil in late 2020,and is associated with increased person-to-person transmission of COVID-19. At this time, there is no evidence that infections with this variant cause more severe disease. 22 other states have recorded cases involving the P.1 variant.
