Virginia Mental Hospitals Have Worker Shortage

Virginia’s mental hospitals are dealing with a pair of issues – increased patient counts and not enough workers. Department commissioner Alison Land told lawmakers recruiting employees is hard due to low pay, job burnout and increasing workloads so as a stopgap, contract workers are brought in along with overtime for current staff.
