The Westmoreland County School Board heard from Department of Social Services Family Services Supervisor Elizabeth Bowen on child abuse prevention especially the effect COVID-19 has had on reporting abuse. The Westmoreland News reports Bowen spoke at a recent school board meeting and indicated the lack of in-person classes means teachers aren’t able to see possible signs of abuse so it falls on family members and relatives to report cases. During the 2020 fiscal year Westmoreland County had 90 investigated abuse reports.
