Gov. Ralph Northam orders the Virginia Unemployment Commission to speed up processing unemployment claims and have the upgrades in place by October 1. The department is to spend $20 million to add 300 new staffers and make technology upgrades to modernize existing systems. Many delay issues surround around the adjudication process where claims are flagged as being invalid or fradulent and need to be reviewed by an adjudication officer.
