The Town of Kilmarnock is awarded federal grants and loans for improvements to the waste water treatment plant which will improve efficiency and reliability. The award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture includes $2.5 million in grants and $6 milli9n in loans. Town manager Susan Cockrell tells Northern Neck News the plant’s current system dates back a quarter-century and needs to be replaced before a critical failure occurs. The total project cost is $9.3 million and is to be completed by the end of 2023.
