Celebrate Virginia Farmers’ Markets and Shop Local

This is Virginia Farmers’ Market Week and the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is encouraging residents to celebrate by shopping local. August is prime season for Virginia produce, and the Commonwealth’s more than 280 farmers’ markets are offering not only a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables but also Virginia Grown meats such as chicken, pork, seafood. Many markets accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits and accept vouchers from various nutrition programs.
