Redistricting Commission To Start From Scratch

Virginia’s Redistricting Commission decides not to use existing political maps to designate new boundaries and will create the districts from scratch. The procedures were debated at length and initally came down to a partisan splie but the committee voted 12-4 to adopt the “blank-slate” approach. The commission will submit the final boundaries to the General Assembly who will then conduct an “up-or-down” vote. The redistricting commission meets again next Monday.
