School is back in session in Northumberland County and last week school officials discussed some new programs, facilities, and events, including adding a varsity swimming program. TheRappahannockRecord reports Athletic Director Theresa Rock presented a proposal for the program, including expenses and logistics required. The proposal came to just over $4,000. The school board unanimously approved the proposal. Varsity swimming will be a winter sport, running from November to February, with four regular meets, one regional, and one state championship. The team will train and hold home meets at the Northern Neck YMCA.
