The Virginia Health Department is reporting one-thousand-700 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths from the past 24 hours. This brings the state up to 530-thousand-825 total coronavirus cases. A state trooper faces sex crime charges. Derrick Thompson was arrested Thursday. He faces several charges including rape in an incident that was reported last September. Thompson is in the New River Regional Jail without bond. He also is suspended without pay.
Gloucester Sheriff’s Deputy Jon Holt has been named top cop by Greater Hampton Roads Regional Crime Lines. This is the first time that the regional Top Cop Award was presented to a member of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office. The Gazette Journal mentions Holt truly deserved the region’s top law enforcement honor.
